YSTRAD BARWIG VICTORY!

Pontypridd Assembly Member Mick Antoniw has welcomed the decision of Cabinet Secretary for the Environment and Rural Affairs, Lesley Griffiths to refuse planning permission for the c.480 home development on the Ystrad Barwig site.

The decision follows the recommendation to refuse planning permission by the independent Planning Inspectorate, with an increased risk of flooding in the area being the key issue.

Mick Antoniw said:

“This fantastic news is to a large extent the result of a long-running local campaign, and much credit must go to local residents and Councillors, both past and present who have made a persuasive case against this development. I have been pleased to play my part, supporting residents and making representations at planning and public meetings and to the Cabinet Secretary.

“This decision means that the flood risk posed by this development and road safety concerns as a result of increased traffic will be averted. Of equal importance will be the ability of local people to continue to access the full recreational opportunities offered to walkers, runners and cyclists using the footpath.”
