FAIR WORK AN IMPORTANT STEP CLOSER IN WALES

I’ve been working closely with TUC Cymru on the fair work and social partnership agenda for some time, so it was great to be able to speak to trade unionists earlier this year at the Welsh Labour conference and share their enthusiasm for First Minister Mark Drakeford’s announcement that the process will begin by implementing Section 1 of the Equalities Act.

Now the Welsh Government has taken another significant step by committing to a Social Partnership Act, legislation that will promote ‘fair work’ practises, including collective bargaining.  This will be a radical piece of legislation, which will use the leverage of the Welsh Government’s procurement budget (c.£6bn) to award contracts to companies that have the best employment practises, such as recognising trades unions.

This short video features the statement on 9th July 2019 by Mark Drakeford and I give these proposals my absolute support.
