VICTORY FOR RESIDENTS ON YSTRAD BARWIG

Following the decision by the Minister for Housing and Local Government to refuse planning permission for the proposed residential development at Ystrad Barwig, Llantwit Fardre, Mick Antoniw the local Assembly Member said:

“This is tremendous news for all those people in Llantwit Fardre who have fought for so long against this wholly unsustainable development.  The result in no small part due to a long-running local campaign, which I’ve been pleased to be a part of.

“We argued that this development was unsustainable in terms of local transport infrastructure and that the development’s foot-print included a C2 flood plain area, which left resident at risk of flooding.  Clearly this was the decisive factor for the Minister.

“The recent terrible flooding we have experienced should be a clear warning that we build on natural flood plains at our peril and I hope the Welsh Government will continue to give full weight to the role natural flood defences play in keeping residents safe.”
