AM WELCOMES £700,000 BEDDAU HALT IMPROVEMENTS

Mick Antoniw AM has joined Council Deputy Leader Maureen Webber and local Councillors in welcoming the Welsh Government’s announcement of £700,000 to upgrade the Beddau Halt junction. The announcement follows a long-running campaign by Councillors Ricky Yeo and Clayton Willis, supported by Mick Antoniw.

The project, which is entirely funded by the Welsh Government, will include substantial work to raise the road, install a new junction and traffic controlled signals. RCT will commence work on site in the current financial year.

Mick Antoniw said:
“I welcome the Welsh Government’s decision to comprehensively upgrade this junction, which is a notorious accident blackspot.

“This significant investment shows that despite budgets being tighter than ever Welsh Government, working in partnership with RCT Council is putting people’s safety first.”

Councillor Maureen Webber, Deputy Leader of the Labour-led Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, said:
“I’m delighted to see that the Welsh Government have allocated £700,000 for RCT Council to carry out much needed improvements to the notorious Beddau Halt junction, with over £200,000 allocated for work to commence this financial year.

“Local Labour representatives have long campaigned on the behalf of residents, and I would like to thank our local Assembly Member for Pontypridd, Mick Antoniw, for successfully championing this issue to the Welsh Government.

“The funding will allow for significant improvements to be made to the layout of the road, creating a far safer environment for local residents and road users.”

Local Labour Councillor for the Beddau Ward, Councillor Richard Yeo, added: “The Halt junction has long been a concern for local residents on the Gwaunmiskin Estate and surrounding areas and, following my representations, I am thankful to both RCT Council and the Welsh Government for working in partnership to provide a solution to the problem.

“Work will shortly be starting on site, so residents and commuters can soon expect to see the improvements taking shape.”
